Associate

Sydney, NSW · Architecture/Engineering
Join a design-led studio where architecture is used as a strategic tool to create meaningful, real-world impact. This is a practice that looks beyond the obvious, pushing design thinking forward on every project by balancing big-picture strategy with carefully resolved detail. Working closely with clients and communities, the studio delivers architecture that is intelligent, distinctive, and built to perform socially, environmentally and commercially.

This role sits primarily within the front-end design phase while still maintaining involvement across the full lifecycle of projects. You will lead the design thinking behind medium to smaller scale developments, shaping ideas from early concept through design development and ensuring continuity through documentation and delivery. Class 2 multi-residential experience is highly regarded, though architects with experience across a variety of typologies are encouraged to apply.

Working closely with Directors and senior peers, you’ll be part of a collaborative environment where leadership remains hands-on and ideas are openly explored. You’ll have genuine influence over design and project outcomes, guiding teams, mentoring architects, and contributing to a studio culture that values curiosity, clarity and long-term thinking. It’s an ideal step for a Senior Architect moving toward Associate level, or an Associate seeking deeper involvement in concept-led projects with end-to-end responsibility.

What you’ll be doing

You will act as Project Lead across design-led projects, with responsibility for guiding ideas from early concept through to completion.

  • Lead design development from concept through DA, documentation and construction
  • Shape early design ideas and translate them into clear, buildable outcomes
  • Coordinate architecture, interiors and landscape to deliver cohesive design intent
  • Manage project scope, programme, fees, quality and client expectations
  • Lead client presentations, design workshops and key stakeholder engagement
  • Oversee documentation to ensure clarity, consistency and design integrity
  • Guide projects through construction including RFIs, site inspections and defect resolution
  • Mentor project teams and graduates, supporting both creative development and delivery

What you’ll bring

  • 8+ years’ professional experience within an architectural practice
  • Registered Architect or close to registration
  • Proven experience delivering projects from concept through to construction
  • Experience across multi-residential projects, with Class 2 experience highly regarded
  • Capability across concept design, planning, documentation and delivery phases
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and approvals pathways
  • Strong understanding of NCC/BCA and NSW planning controls
  • Confident client leadership skills with a considered, solutions-focused approach
  • A collaborative leadership style that balances direction, mentorship and accountability

Who you’ll be joining

You’ll be part of a nationally recognised, design-led practice that believes great architecture comes from listening carefully, thinking strategically, and designing beyond convention. Sustainability and social responsibility are embedded into the studio’s thinking from the earliest stages, with design decisions informed by people, place and long-term value.

The culture is open, thoughtful and genuinely collaborative. Directors remain closely involved, knowledge is shared freely, and design conversations extend beyond form into strategy, impact and opportunity. This is a studio where ideas are explored in new dimensions, and where architects are trusted to grow, lead and shape the future of the practice.

Perks

  • Lead concept-driven, design-led projects
  • Clear and transparent career pathways
  • Weekly design forums, CPD sessions and cross-disciplinary reviews
  • Supportive, inclusive culture with respect for work–life balance
  • Paid parental leave and access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Regular studio events, design talks, team lunches and social activities
